Artificial intelligence and machine learning are increasingly transforming financial services by improving fraud detection, credit assessment, risk management, customer service, financial forecasting, investment analysis, compliance, and operational efficiency. Financial institutions generate large volumes of transactional, behavioural, market, and customer data, creating opportunities for advanced analytical systems. This paper examines the applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in financial services, focusing on fraud detection, credit scoring, risk management, customer experience, investment analysis, financial forecasting, regulatory compliance, automation, and ethical challenges. Machine learning models can identify complex patterns and anomalies within financial data and support faster decision-making than many traditional manual approaches. AI-powered systems can also automate routine processes and provide personalized services through digital channels. However, financial AI creates important challenges related to data quality, privacy, cybersecurity, model bias, explainability, regulatory compliance, and the potential for excessive dependence on automated decisions. The paper argues that AI and machine learning should be integrated as decision-support and automation capabilities while maintaining appropriate human oversight and institutional accountability. Responsible implementation requires reliable data, strong governance, model validation, cybersecurity, transparency, and continuous monitoring. When appropriately managed, AI and machine learning can improve financial efficiency, risk control, customer service, innovation, and resilience while supporting the evolution of digital financial services.
