Abstract

Modern astrology has become increasingly visible in contemporary culture through horoscopes, birth charts, social media, mobile applications, and online communities. Beyond prediction, astrology is often used as a language for describing personality, identity, relationships, emotions, and personal experiences. This paper examines the influence of modern astrology on personal identity and self-understanding, focusing on zodiac identities, birth charts, self-reflection, personality narratives, relationships, digital platforms, social belonging, personalization, and critical perspectives. Astrological descriptions may encourage individuals to reflect on their strengths, preferences, emotional tendencies, and interpersonal behaviour. For some users, these interpretations provide a framework through which experiences can be organized and discussed. Social media has further transformed astrology into a form of identity expression, allowing individuals to share zodiac placements and participate in communities built around common interests. However, astrological interpretations should not be confused with scientifically validated personality assessment. Human identity develops through complex interactions among psychological, social, cultural, and environmental influences. The paper argues that modern astrology is most useful for understanding how individuals construct meaning and express identity rather than as an objective explanation of personality.
