Abstract

Accounting Information Systems (AIS) have become an essential component of modern organizational management because they provide the infrastructure through which financial and operational information is collected, processed, stored, and communicated. The rapid development of data analytics, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and business intelligence has significantly expanded the capabilities of AIS beyond traditional transaction recording and financial reporting. Organizations can now analyse large volumes of structured and unstructured data to identify trends, evaluate performance, forecast financial outcomes, manage risks, and support strategic decision-making. This research paper examines the relationship between Accounting Information Systems and data analytics and explores their contribution to financial decision-making and organizational performance. It discusses the conceptual foundations and components of AIS, the evolution of accounting information technologies, different forms of data analytics, applications in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, performance evaluation, risk management, fraud detection, and strategic planning. The paper also examines the benefits and challenges associated with analytics-enabled accounting systems, including data quality, cybersecurity, privacy, system integration, implementation costs, employee competencies, algorithmic bias, and organizational resistance to technological change. The analysis indicates that the value of AIS and data analytics depends not only on technological capabilities but also on data governance, internal controls, organizational culture, managerial competencies, and the ability to translate analytical outputs into effective decisions. The paper argues that modern accounting professionals increasingly require analytical, technological, and strategic skills in addition to conventional accounting expertise. It concludes that the integration of AIS and advanced data analytics can transform accounting from a primarily historical reporting function into a more dynamic and forward-looking decision-support capability, thereby contributing to improved organizational efficiency, financial performance, risk management, and long-term competitiveness.
