Abstract

Financial inclusion is increasingly recognized as an important component of inclusive
economic development becausea access to safe and affordable financial services can
influence saving, investment, entrepreneurship, risk management and household resilience. In
developing economies, barriers such as distance, documentation, cost, limited financial
literacy and weak digital infrastructure can exclude households and small enterprises from
formal finance. This paper examines the relationship between banking access and economic
development, with attention to savings, credit, microenterprise, digital banking, financial
literacy and consumer protection. It argues that inclusion should be understood not simply as
account ownership but as meaningful and responsible use of appropriate financial service
