The Influence of Genetic Mutations on Human Disease

Genetic mutations are changes in DNA sequence that can alter gene function, gene
regulation, chromosome structure, or cellular processes. Although many mutations have
little or no measurable effect, some can disrupt essential biological pathways and
contribute to inherited disorders, cancer, developmental conditions, and other diseases.
Mutations may affect protein sequence, RNA processing, gene expression, or genomic
stability, and their clinical consequences depend on factors such as variant type, location,
inheritance, genetic background, and environment. Advances in DNA sequencing and
genomic analysis have greatly improved the identification and interpretation of diseaseassociated
mutations. This paper examines nine major aspects of genetic mutations and
human disease, including mutation types, molecular consequences, inherited disorders,
cancer, complex disease, mutation detection, genotype-phenotype relationships,
therapeutic implications, and challenges in clinical interpretation.
