Homeopathy and Healthcare Choices: Patient Perspectives and Contemporary Trends

Abstract

Healthcare choices are influenced by a combination of personal preferences, cultural beliefs, previous experiences, accessibility, cost, trust, information, and perceptions of safety and effectiveness. Homeopathy remains a widely recognized complementary healthcare approach and has an established institutional presence in India. This paper examines patient perspectives and contemporary trends in healthcare choices involving homeopathy. It discusses reasons for use, patient preferences, perceived benefits, satisfaction, access, integration with conventional care, health information, evidence, safety, and changing patterns of healthcare decision-making. Indian studies have reported substantial patient interest in integrating homeopathy with conventional services, including favorable attitudes toward integrated models. At the same time, public preference should not be interpreted as proof of clinical efficacy. Major evidence assessments report little reliable evidence supporting homeopathy as an effective treatment for specific health conditions, and safety concerns can arise with some products or when effective care is delayed.
