Preventive health focuses on reducing health risks, promoting healthy behaviours, identifying problems early, and supporting well-being throughout the life course. Yoga and mindfulness are increasingly used in health-promotion and wellness settings because they combine physical activity, breathing, relaxation, attention, and self-awareness. This paper examines yoga and mindfulness as complementary approaches to preventive health and presents a holistic perspective on their potential contribution to healthy living. It discusses stress management, physical activity, emotional well-being, sleep, healthy behaviour, chronic disease prevention, self-care, community programmes, research, safety, and integration with contemporary healthcare. Evidence suggests that yoga and mindfulness may support selected outcomes such as stress, quality of life, physical function, and some cardiometabolic risk factors, although findings vary by intervention and population. A holistic approach should therefore use these practices as supportive components of preventive healthcare rather than substitutes for established medical services such as screening, vaccination, diagnosis, and treatment.
