Sustainable healthcare seeks to protect human health while using natural, social, and economic resources responsibly over the long term. Ayurveda, one of India's major traditional systems of medicine, has historically incorporated medicinal plants, lifestyle practices, diet, preventive care, and concepts of balance between people and their environment. This paper examines the role of Ayurvedic medicine in supporting sustainable and natural healthcare, with particular attention to traditional knowledge, medicinal plants, preventive lifestyle practices, local resources, environmental sustainability, biodiversity, ethical sourcing, product quality, safety, and responsible integration with contemporary healthcare. Ayurveda offers potential opportunities for culturally appropriate health promotion and sustainable use of traditional knowledge, but natural origin does not automatically establish clinical effectiveness or safety. Sustainable development of Ayurvedic medicine therefore requires scientific evaluation, quality control, conservation of medicinal resources, responsible cultivation and harvesting, professional regulation, and informed patient choice.
