Applications of Genomics in Personalized Healthcare

Genomics has become an important component of personalized healthcare by providing information about inherited genetic variation, disease-associated molecular changes, and individual biological characteristics. Advances in sequencing and bioinformatics allow clinicians and researchers to use genomic information for diagnosis, disease-risk assessment, treatment selection, pharmacogenomics, cancer management, and prevention. Genomic medicine is particularly valuable when a well-characterized genetic variant has a clear relationship with a disease or therapeutic response, although interpretation often requires integration with clinical, environmental, and lifestyle information. This paper examines nine major applications of genomics in personalized healthcare, including genomic diagnosis, risk prediction, pharmacogenomics, oncology, rare-disease investigation, reproductive medicine, preventive healthcare, data integration, and future precision-medicine approaches.
