Homeopathy occupies a distinctive place in India's pluralistic healthcare landscape and is formally regulated within the country's system of traditional and complementary medicine. This paper examines the role of homeopathy in India, with attention to its historical development, institutional recognition, education, professional practice, healthcare delivery, public acceptance, regulation, research, and contemporary challenges. The National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH), established under the National Commission for Homoeopathy Act, 2020, is responsible for areas including standards in education, regulation of institutions and practitioners, professional ethics, and the national register. The paper also distinguishes institutional recognition and cultural significance from scientific evidence of clinical effectiveness. Major evidence assessments have not established homeopathy as an effective treatment for specific medical conditions beyond placebo effects. Its responsible role within complementary healthcare therefore requires informed patient choice, appropriate regulation, clear communication about evidence, and timely access to evidence-based medical care
