Preventive health focuses on reducing health risks, maintaining functional capacity, and promoting well-being before serious disease or disability develops. Yoga is a widely practiced mind-body approach that combines physical postures, breathing exercises, relaxation, concentration, and meditation. This paper examines the importance of yoga in contemporary preventive health practices, focusing on physical activity, stress management, mental well-being, flexibility, balance, sleep, healthy lifestyle behaviour, and quality of life. It also considers the potential role of yoga in health promotion programmes and community-based prevention. Research suggests that yoga may support several physical and psychological outcomes, although effects vary according to the type, duration, intensity, and population involved. The paper emphasizes that yoga should complement established preventive measures, including vaccination, screening, balanced nutrition, aerobic activity, strength training, and appropriate medical care.
