Abstract

Public perceptions and awareness influence how individuals understand, evaluate, and use complementary forms of healthcare. Homeopathy has a long history of public use in several countries and has an established institutional presence in India. This paper examines public perceptions and awareness of homeopathic medicine, focusing on knowledge, beliefs, cultural influences, personal experience, trust, media exposure, accessibility, and attitudes toward conventional healthcare. It also considers the distinction between awareness of homeopathy and scientific understanding of its effectiveness. Public awareness may be shaped by family traditions, community practices, practitioner communication, advertising, online information, and personal experiences. Because scientific evidence does not establish homeopathy as an effective treatment for specific medical conditions beyond placebo effects, balanced health information is important. The paper emphasizes informed choice, transparent communication, safety, and the need to avoid delaying evidence-based diagnosis and treatment.
