Ayurvedic herbs have been used in traditional Indian health practices for centuries and remain an important part of contemporary interest in natural and complementary healthcare. Plants used in Ayurveda contain diverse chemical constituents that may contribute to biological effects, although the strength of evidence varies considerably among herbs and preparations. This paper examines the role of Ayurvedic herbs in supporting human health, focusing on traditional uses, major categories of herbal preparations, selected commonly used herbs, potential health applications, quality and safety considerations, and the growing importance of scientific evaluation. The paper emphasizes that traditional use and modern evidence should be considered together, while appropriate dosage, product quality, possible interactions, and professional guidance remain important for responsible use.
