Abstract

Quality of life is a multidimensional concept that includes physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships, functional ability, and perceptions of everyday life. Yoga is a widely practiced mind-body approach combining physical postures, breathing techniques, relaxation, concentration, and meditation. This paper examines the effect of yoga practices on quality of life, with particular attention to physical functioning, mental and emotional well-being, stress, sleep, social functioning, self-awareness, and daily activity. Research in different populations suggests that yoga may support improvements in several quality-of-life dimensions, although outcomes vary according to the type, duration, intensity, and setting of practice. The paper also considers the role of individualized practice, adherence, safety, and the need for evidence-based evaluation. Yoga is presented as a complementary lifestyle practice that may support quality of life alongside appropriate healthcare and other healthy behaviours.
